Today I went to pick up my visa from the Chinese embassy. How exciting! Now I'll have to send that to Gap Adventures, who will organise my Nepalese permit.
After that I went to the "vaccination clinic", where I got the first dose of hepatitis AB, typhoid fever and Japanese encephalitis. It was only the 3rd of my required vaccinations and that was already well over 300 €. I also made the appointments for the 2nd dose of hepatitis AB, Japanese encephalitis as well as cholera, polio and tetanus. I should also get some malaria tablets and medication to help me with the altitude changes in Nepal. And antibiotics and migraine tablets. And whatever else. I'll be heavily drugged up!
The main thing is that things are moving forward. I nearly went to the scout shop today to buy a travel sleeping bag and moschito nets and sprays but my trip is still nearly 2 months ago, so I try not to get too excited. Impossible! :D

Goodbye to my surfplans?
I went to the orthopedist due to my painful knee, which I got when I fell off a surfboard in Portugal last June. He told me that there is an injury in my knee that may have to be operated. What?! I'll need to have a MRI-scan to prove it though. This is just what I needed!
A friend of mine, who is an expert on the matter told me that small fractures cure on their own and surfing should not harm it any further. Still - it is the pain that troubles me, as every little turning of the knee makes me want to scream. Taking off trousers and putting them back on is especially painful. Someone suggested I can do without them. That will be interesting...:D
I'll think of fun things to do on my journey anyway, but it will be a bit of disappointment is surfing won't be on the cards.

2 months to go - so much to do
So, this is finally happening. The 4 months unpaid holiday has been approved, jiihaa! Now there are lots of things to think about and organise, such as, where am I actually gonna go for a start! And this, I can tell you have been changing pretty much weekly.
What I have decided and booked and paid for so far are:
I've bought my travel insurance and I am in a process of getting the required travel vaccinations and OMG - I had no idea they are so damn expensive! But I suppose I rather pay a few quid now rather than end up catching polio or some horrific tropical disease whilst travelling.
All in all, I am ridiculously excited! But I keep on thinking there are still ages until I go. I have plenty of time to decide where i am going and to do my research about those places. But time flies and really, I should learn to be organised so that I can get the most of this.
What I have decided and booked and paid for so far are:
- Flights from Helsinki to Peking (27.10), Kathmandu to Bangkok (16.11) and Bangkok to Helsinki (22.2)
- Tibet Adventure from 30th October starting from Peking and ending up in Kathmandu on the 13th November.
